A Beautiful Life and Legacy

​

LaDonna Raye Johnson (1943–2016) was a lifelong member of the Ralston community whose music and teaching touched generations. Raised in Ralston, she graduated from Ralston High School in 1961, where she served as first-chair clarinetist and accompanist for nearly every musical group. Her talent and dedication were evident early and continued throughout her life.

In 1965, LaDonna graduated from Omaha University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in music, earning a Regents Scholarship and numerous academic honors. She was a member and officer of several national honor societies, reflecting her commitment to excellence in education and leadership.

LaDonna began studying piano and organ at age three and a half under her mother’s guidance and continued formal study for more than 15 years. Her professional career as a private piano and organ teacher began in 1961 and spanned 55 years. She affectionately referred to her students as “her kids” and took great pride in nurturing both their musical skills and confidence. In later years, she and her students shared music through Christmas and patriotic programs at museums, schools, and nursing homes, blending education with community outreach.

As a church musician, LaDonna served Ralston and surrounding communities for decades, playing in more than 60 churches, schools, and mortuaries. She was a confirmed member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years and served as organist at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Papillion for 30 years and at Ralston United Church of Christ for 21 years. She played for countless weddings, funerals, and community celebrations, including major Ralston anniversaries.

In recognition of her service, LaDonna was named Ralston Citizen of the Year in 2012. Her life stands as a testament to music, teaching, and generous community spirit.

Through her passing, LaDonna’s generosity was extended to numerous community organizations and to the City of Ralston. This fountain honors her lifelong service, kindness, and dedication to the Ralston community.
